ExpeditedA line goes down. A customer will not move the date. At that point the freight rate stops being the number that matters, and the only question is what it costs to be there on time. We tell you that number before you commit to it.
Expedited is not a faster version of normal freight. It is a different way of moving it, and the difference is where the cost comes from.
The trailer goes from your dock to the destination without stopping for anyone else's shipment. Removing the terminal network removes the delays that live inside it, which is what makes the date reliable rather than likely.
One driver rests while the other drives, so the truck keeps moving through hours a single driver legally cannot. On long lanes that is the difference between two days and four.
Not every urgent shipment needs a tractor-trailer. For a few pallets, smaller equipment is often available sooner and costs less than holding a full truck for freight that will not fill it.
Expedited pricing moves with the hour, so the faster you can give us these, the tighter the number.
Sometimes standard truckload arrives the same day expedited would, for a fraction of the cost. When that is true for your lane we say so, before you pay for speed the lane does not need.
The reverse happens too. If the deadline is not survivable at any price, you are better off knowing that in time to tell your customer than finding out when the truck is late.
